For an electric bike to charge while you pedal, the pedals need to be connected directly to the battery. This is not only inefficient, but it would also be hazardous!

Self-Charging E-bikes? Are They Out There?

Well, not quite. Even though it would be fantastic if our bikes could fuel up on their own, that’s not how it works – at least not yet.

But some companies advertise that their electric bikes have a “self-charging” feature. So, what does that mean?

However, this technology is still in development and is not yet widely available.
